Bestehend aus einer Video- und zwei Dia-Projektionen, präsentiert „Briefe“ eine Handlung aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln. Das Video zeigt, wie ich am Donauufer in Wien sitze und nacheinander persönliche, an mich gerichtete Briefe in den Fluß werfe und diesen Vorgang fotografiere. Eine der beiden Diaserien gibt die von mir aufgenommenen Bilder wieder, die zweite Serie, von einer dritten Person aufgenommen, mich und die mich filmende Person. Zu hören ist eine männliche Stimme, die den Inhalt dieser Briefe vorliest. Ein rumänischer Sprecher, der deutsch nicht versteht, versucht, deren Inhalt zu artikulieren. Manchmal erscheinen Satzstücke verständlich, tauchen aber alsbald wieder ins Unverständliche, so, wie die Briefe auf der Wasseroberfläche in die Tiefe sinken. Allein die Intonation des Sprechers erzeugt das Gefühl von Nähe und Intimität.

Consisting of a video and two slide projections, ‘Letters’ presents a story from different angles. The video shows me sitting on the banks of the Danube in Vienna, throwing personal letters addressed to me into the river one after the other and photographing this process. One of the two series of slides shows the pictures I took, the second series, taken by a third person, shows me and the person filming me. A male voice can be heard reading out the contents of these letters. A Romanian, who does not understand German, tries to articulate their content. Sometimes seem understandable, but soon dive back into the incomprehensible, just as the letters sink into the depths on the sink into the depths of the water. The speaker’s intonation alone creates a feeling of closeness and intimacy.
